Takaishi People are lonely. People are depressed. People are heartbroken. People are lost. People are hiding the pain. People are numbing reality. People are empty. People are seeking hope.

It’s a lie of the enemy to think for a moment that anyone is satisfied outside of Christ. It’s a lie of the enemy to believe joy is found apart from being a child of God. If you look around you and see unbelievers who seemingly have it all together and live a happy life, make no mistake, it is all a show. How do I know? Because the Bible tells me so…“The sorrows of those who run after another god shall multiply; their drink offerings of blood I will not pour out or take their names on my lips.” Psalm 16:4

Those who worship anything other than God will have sorrows built upon sorrows. True joy and satisfaction are not found in false idols. They may provide temporary comfort, but in the end, they produce only devastation.

Only Death Apart from Christ

Life! Life is what people are searching for! Life is more than breathing, eating, and sleeping! How do we define life? Is it simply existing? We’ve all heard the comments before that goes something like, “You haven’t truly lived until…” fill in the blank. Does the rich person live a fuller life than the poor? Does the person who has a life with few worries, live a fuller life than the person who goes through many trials?

The Bible teaches us that none of us has life apart from Jesus. If people could find life apart from Jesus they would have found it a long time ago, but as the U2 song goes people can do all the things they thought would bring them life and they will still say “But I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”

Everyone on this planet is trying to find life and they never seem to grasp it. People chase the allure of travel and adventure; they chase the siren call of power and influence. Even those who live for family can’t find true life in that pursuit. Everything comes up empty-handed. All are dead in their sins and trespasses apart from Christ as Ephesians 2:1 shows us. Apart from Christ, everyone is dead. Jesus himself makes this clear in John 6:53.

Life is Found in Christ Alone

“So Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.'” – John 6:53

There is some confusion over John 6:53, as at first glance it can seem a strange thing for Jesus to say. If you look at the passage in its entire context though it will be made clear that Jesus is talking metaphorically. Jesus is our spiritual food and drink and without submitting to his Lordship, believing in his resurrection, and seeking him as we would food and water, we will not have life in us.

Praise the Lord, Jesus was willing to give up his body as a sacrifice and pour out his blood to atone for our sins! He did this to give us life as we see in John 10. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it in all its fullness. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” – John 10:10-11

Jesus laid down his life for us so that we might have life in him. Apart from him, we are dead. This life in Christ is full because now we can glorify God as we were intended in the beginning. We can again walk with God and find joy, peace, hope, love and so much more in him.

Bring Them Life

It is a nightmare to live without Christ. A dark reality that people aren’t even aware of until it’s too late. When you look at people who don’t have Christ and they seem content, remember what the Bible says about them. You can see right through the masks and peer directly into the heart and know they are dead inside. Satan would have you believe that the darkness around you is not that dark, that those who live without Christ aren’t doing that bad. They are doing worse than any of us can imagine, they are on a path of destruction that leads to eternal damnation.

You have life in Christ. We are the living walking amongst the dead. The good news we carry with us is the greatest treasure we could give to anyone. People are dead in their trespasses, bring them the bread of life, bring them the living waters, bring them Jesus who alone atones for sin!
