Our God thrives on bringing life where there is no life, both physically and spiritually. But how often do we overlook, dismiss, or plainly forget that God can and wants to resurrect so much more in our life now?
In the same way, sprouts of righteousness and praise will rise up in the Kingdom because people like you and me are sowing the seed of the gospel today. Because we are proclaiming the good news to the poor, binding up the wounded, and proclaiming liberty to the captive.
We live in a world that is so focused on self that I sometimes wonder if people really see each other at all. But God doesn’t teach us to live that way. He wants us to see others as He sees them, beloved, and in need of the gospel–the way these girls see and love each other. John 13:35 tells us “by this all people will know that you are my disciples if you have a love for one another.” It is a blessing to see the transformation of your kids into Christ-followers, and I know that much of that is because of the work you are doing in the home.
The good news is that evangelism isn’t very complicated, although we have the tendency to inflate it in our minds as such. The number one priority in being successful in evangelism is loving God. The Greatest commandment of all the commandments in the Bible is to Love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength!
Do you believe that God answers prayer? I’m not asking if you think he hears you, but if you believe he really listens and answers your prayers. The Lord has challenged me in my own faith in recent weeks. Our study in James is a large part of that. What does it look like to be someone who asks God for wisdom or other things he promises to give us without doubting (James 1:6)? Am I the doubting, double-minded person who is unstable in all his ways (1:8)?
I’ve seen evidence of the Lord’s gracious answer to prayer in spite of my lack of faith. On three separate occasions in the last few weeks I have prayed for something very specific, and the Lord answered my prayer! The problem is that when he answered them, I was shocked!
My garden, or lack thereof, has been a good lesson for me concerning unintended consequences. Putting forth no effort last year didn’t just yield nothing, it produced worthless weeds that were ugly, grew very tall, and had seeds that stuck to your clothes. A lack of time spent doing devotions individually and as a family won’t just lead to nothing. The world is fighting for your family’s attention, fighting to give them something other than the Lord to worship. It’s doing the same to us. If you’re struggling to get going again, consider these words from Colossians 3:23-24, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” The inheritance will come, but until that day we must press on with our work.
