Why Christians Cannot Remain Silent In A Godless Culture

In January of this year, I presented my written sabbatical proposal to the elders of our church in accordance with our sabbatical policy. In February, the elders graciously approved my sabbatical proposal with a few alterations. I shared briefly about my upcoming sabbatical in my sermon on February 25, emphasizing that the purpose of this renewal sabbatical is longevity in ministry at Wildwood. In my interview process with Wildwood in 2016, I was encouraged that Wildwood had a long-standing sabbatical policy. It conveyed that this church recognizes the toll of ministry on a pastor and his family and they care enough to keep pastors around for the long-term to offer this extended time away.

Long Obedience in The Same Direction

Walk Worthy

When I was a teenager and first received my driver’s license, my parents increasingly gave me more freedom to drive places on my own. The further they let me drive on my own, the more they would remind me that driving wasn’t a right, it was a privilege. I should drive as though I wanted that privilege to continue. The state of WI gave me the right to drive, but my parents could take away the privilege if I didn’t drive in a manner worthy of that privilege.

Parenting: When to Discipline & How

I recently visited with a member of my church and the topic of parental discipline came up. She asked me for help understanding when to discipline and how to get to the heart of the matter. In a sermon she listened to over the weekend she heard me say that parents should strive for more than behavior modification; we should pursue the heart issues behind the bad behavior.
