Patient Like Farmers

where can i buy disulfiram in south africa Farmers till the ground, plant the seed, and fertilize the crop. Then they wait and they pray for rain to nourish the crop, preparing for the harvest. No matter what the farmer does, he must acknowledge there are some things that are out of his control. However, he makes sure he’s ready for the harvest that he fully expects to come. Likewise, Christians have to acknowledge that no matter how hard we try, there are some things that are simply out of our control. We must trust the Lord. We must wait patiently like farmers. Like Fat Cows in the Slaughterhouse

The modern American dream is a lie. It promises fulfillment, purpose, and security by accumulating as much wealth as possible and living in as much luxury as possible. It fails to deliver, though. Those who live luxurious, self-indulgent lives with little to no concern for others or for how the Lord would have them invest His resources into His Kingdom work have a rude awakening coming. Acknowledge God in All Your Ways

The world would have us believe that we are the masters of our own fate. The mantra they proclaim says you are the decider of your destiny, you can map out your life to achieve your aspirations. It’s an easy belief to get wrapped up into, because it places us in a position of control, it allows us to feel like we have some power over how our lives go, but according to our passage it isn’t true. We have no ultimate control over our lives. We don’t even know what tomorrow will bring! Yet beginning at a young age the world is trying to indoctrinate us with the idea that we are captains of our future.

In reality, this is a dangerous ideology that ignores God’s sovereignty over all things and it is this type of mindset that James is speaking against.

Submit Yourselves Therefore to God

God gives grace to the humble, so humble yourselves before the Lord.

James said in 4:6 that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. We covered that last week. Since that is true, what follows in this week’s passage seems like a statement of the obvious: if you want His grace, humble yourselves before the Lord. But what does it mean to humble yourself before the Lord? In a word: repent.
