Acknowledge God in All Your Ways

visit this site right here The world would have us believe that we are the masters of our own fate. The mantra they proclaim says you are the decider of your destiny, you can map out your life to achieve your aspirations. It’s an easy belief to get wrapped up into, because it places us in a position of control, it allows us to feel like we have some power over how our lives go, but according to our passage it isn’t true. We have no ultimate control over our lives. We don’t even know what tomorrow will bring! Yet beginning at a young age the world is trying to indoctrinate us with the idea that we are captains of our future.

In reality, this is a dangerous ideology that ignores God’s sovereignty over all things and it is this type of mindset that James is speaking against.

Submit Yourselves Therefore to God

God gives grace to the humble, so humble yourselves before the Lord.

James said in 4:6 that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. We covered that last week. Since that is true, what follows in this week’s passage seems like a statement of the obvious: if you want His grace, humble yourselves before the Lord. But what does it mean to humble yourself before the Lord? In a word: repent.

Friend or Foe?

There’s no getting around it, we want what we want. Left unchecked, our desires can lead us to do awful things. But, God is gracious and calls us to humility!

In this passage, James rebuked his church for the sin of selfishness. He call them out for allowing their passions that war within them to cause conflict in the church. Rather than praying about things and submitting them to the Lord, they coveted, fought, even murdered! When they did pray, they prayed in order to squander it on themselves. Thankfully, God gives more grace when we humble ourselves and call sin what it is.

Visible Faith

Works in no way contribute to a person’s salvation. We are saved by faith, not by works. However, saving faith will produce works.

In this week’s passage, we see why James and Paul were pitted against one another. Are we saved by faith alone as Paul said, or are we saved by faith along with works? The answer is that we are saved by faith alone, but there is no such thing as faith that is alone. In other words, real faith will always lead to life change in the believer. This passage concludes two chapters of tests of faith that James provided to his church. He very much wanted to ensure they had genuine faith! Do you have genuine faith? Do you have life-changing faith?

You’re Not Enough (and That’s Sorta the Point)

Moms have a difficult job; one for which they are simply not enough…and that’s sorta the point. Moms need Jesus and Jesus offers peace that surpasses understanding!

We live in a culture that tries to convince moms they can be enough if they’d buy X product or subscribe Y blog or if they’d look deep within and discover their true selves. But the reality that every mom already knows is they are not enough. And that’s sorta the point. God uses moms weaknesses to draw them to Himself in personal relationship. Perhaps no passage conveys this as succinctly as Philippians 4:6-7. Moms, you need Jesus and Jesus offers peace that surpasses understanding!

Promised Home

Jesus left His disciples, but in doing so He went to prepare a place for us. If He went to prepare a place, He will return to bring us to that place.

In the final sermon of our three-part series, “Promise of Easter” we’re exploring the promise Jesus made to His disciples that He would come back to get them and bring to the place He is going away to prepare for them. Because Jesus fulfilled two other promises, namely to crush Satan’s head (Genesis 3:15) and to send the Helper, the Holy Spirit (John 16), we are confident Jesus will fulfill this promise, too! He is preparing for a place to dwell with Him and the Father forever. Those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life have nothing but eternal joy and fellowship with Jesus awaiting them. Jesus invites all who thirst for righteousness to drink of the water of life without payment. The only question remaining is are you thirsty?
